Responsibilities of a Ski Season Nanny Job:

While candidates are encouraged to make the most of and enjoy their time working over a ski season, it is important to remember that as a nanny, you will be entrusted with a family’s children, and candidates therefore need to be:

  • Enthusiastic and energetic individuals, able to cope with and relish the demands of looking after children for extended periods of time.

  • Have experience of and enjoy working with children and incorporating themselves into a family group.

  • Able to maintain professional composure at all times, in a new environment that may require some flexibility (for example, a change in weather may result in a change in plans, and you must be able to accommodate this).

  • Be a team player with the ability to join in on resort activities, as well as coming up with your own.

  • Have a warm, friendly, and welcoming temperament that is suitable to working with children and making them and the other members of the family feel comfortable around you.

Working as a nanny during the ski season requires an energetic, enthusiastic individual who isn’t afraid to get involved and connect with a family. It can sometimes involve travelling with the family to their chosen resort and chalet, and setting up during arrival.

Depending on the age of the children, nannying duties could include anything from taking the children to and from activities - such as ski lessons - playgroups, entertaining them during the day, and babysitting during the evenings or at night if the rest of the family want to enjoy some aprés ski. As a ski nanny, you should ensure that your family has the utmost confidence in your ability to look after and entertain their children.

Why You Should Consider Working as a Ski Season Nanny:

If we haven’t yet managed to convince you that being a ski nanny is the ideal role for the winter season, keep on reading to find more about the opportunities available to you…

While we can’t promise that you’ll fall in love and win a snowboarding competition (à la Chalet Girl), we can promise you that you’ll come away with a unique experience of the ski season.

Alongside your nannying duties, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Work on and improve your skiing skills, or learn a new kind of winter sport, such as snowboarding.

  • Socialise with other members of the ski staff teams, making use of the restaurants and bars that are available at ski resorts.

  • Get in touch with nature and explore the area - try a snowshoe walk!

  • Try a new activity - lots of resorts have options available, such as snowmobiling, dog sledding, ice skating, indoor and outdoor swimming, as well as hot tubs, game rooms, clubs, theatres, and cinemas.

Greycoat Lumleys is also able to offer competitive pay, as well as options of full season or temporary placements for ski nannies. Accommodations and food are often included with each role, so expenses for ski staff stay relatively low.
