Resident Matron & Assistant Houseparent Job

I am working with a happy and vibrant day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 2 to 13. They believe childhood is precious and want their pupils to enjoy this special time for as long as possible, within an environment that offers a wide range of stimulating opportunities for growth and development, both inside and outside the classroom. The school is purposeful, ambitious, forward-thinking and most importantly of all, it is kind. They are seeking a matron and assistant houseparent to join them from September 2025.

The job:

  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the boarding house and to be a flexible ‘team player’
  • To help create an environment in which boarders will flourish, feel secure and fully engage with the boarding house and School ethos
  • To undertake regular boarding duties during the week, in the evenings and at weekends.
  • To live in well-appointed staff accommodation within the boarding house and to be on duty and ‘on call’ at night in case needed.
  • To monitor the cleaning of the boarding house (we have a team of cleaners) and to take responsibility for the laundry and domestic arrangements within the boarding house
  • To develop excellent relationships with pupils and all members of staff
  • To develop excellent relationships with the parents and guardians of boarders in order to ensure trust, confidence and clear communication
  • To help ensure the boarding house is a lovely place for our boarders to live - a place of mutual respect, care, kindness and fun
  • To have a proactive, can-do, will-do, positive attitude
  • To be a fun, positive and friendly member of what is a vibrant and very successful family-like community

You:

  • A genuine interest in the personal development and wellbeing of young people
  • Commitment to excellent provision for all children
  • Enthusiasm with a positive outlook
  • A positive attitude towards professional development and your own learning
  • Reliability, integrity and gravitas
  • Approachability
  • Be able to remain calm in all situations
  • Plenty of energy and a good sense of humour!

Hours: As required with the rota - approx 40 hours per week which will include evenings and some weekends

Salary: Circa £28,000 GPA

Accommodation: A very comfortable and newly refurbished flat within the boarding house. There is no charge for this accommodation and all utility bills are paid for by the school.

Meals: All meals are provided during term time.
